Jafvans of Harrow was founded by John Arthur
Fisher in 1959. The original "office" was at his house in Northolt which he started
off with one vehicle - his own Ford Prefect. He used his initials and
called it JAF Cars. When he bought a van, he called the van side JAF Vans. As
business progressed, JAFVANS became the trading name of the whole company. In
1970, Mr Fisher decided to expand his company and moved to current location at
400 Northolt Road, which was a Newsagent with a big garden at the back. In
those days, cars and vans used to get stuck in the mud because the back garden
was used for parking. At that time, company had approximately 20 vehicles (cars
and vans). One of the first vans on the fleet in those years was Ford Thames.
Cars included Vauxhall Viscount, Ford Anglia, Ford Cortina Mark One Vauxhall
Viva HA, Zodiac etc. An early Jafvans Transit was captured on film called "The
Plank" starring Eric Sykes and Tommy Cooper.
