Company History
Jafvans of Harrow was founded by John Arthur Fisher in 1959. The original "office" was at his house in Northolt which he started off with one vehicle - his own Ford Prefect. He used his initials and called it JAF Cars. When he bought a van, he called the van side JAF Vans. As business progressed, JAFVANS became the trading name of the whole company. In 1970, Mr Fisher decided to expand his company and moved to current location at 400 Northolt Road, which was a Newsagent with a big garden at the back. In those days, cars and vans used to get stuck in the mud because the back garden was used for parking. At that time, company had approximately 20 vehicles (cars and vans). One of the first vans on the fleet in those years was Ford Thames. Cars included Vauxhall Viscount, Ford Anglia, Ford Cortina Mark One Vauxhall Viva HA, Zodiac etc. An early Jafvans Transit was captured on film called "The Plank" starring Eric Sykes and Tommy Cooper.

The company's first big vehicle was bought in 1975, which was Ford Transit V4 Luton Body. All Luton vans in those days had alluminium boxes. These weren't as durable as GRP boxes which are used on our Luton vans today. In 1980, the first 7.5 ton was bought. This was Ford "A" series with a petrol 2000cc V4 engine. Consumption was about 8 miles per gallon, which is laughable, looking at present day vehicles. Jafvans first Luton van with tail lift arrived on the fleet in 1985. These proved to be, and still are, very popular. By that time Jafvans had around 90 vehicles (cars and vans). The ever-present Ford was the main manufacturer on Jafvans fleet since the very beginning.

1997 saw a new chapter for Jafvans. At the age of 75, Mr Fisher decided to retire and he was pleased to sell the company to his manager, Mr Stephen Blake, who had worked for the company since 1973. Since the takeover, the company has grown and currently has over 150 vehicles of various makes and models and is constantly trying to improve to the highest standards. Jafvans is now a family business in the truest sense, since many of the staff are within the Blake family circle. As a Christian family they believe in bringing fairness and integrity to all parts of the business. In May 2006, we've opened another site which is located at Rear of 2 Bridge Street in Pinner. Also, in November 2009 we've acquired a third site located at Breakspear Road in Ruislip.
